He also went on to talk about the skills that salespeople in the 21st century need to prosper. "The sales function should be a company's lifeblood, but it needs to become as professional as the rest of 21st century business if it is to retain its importance"


3 out of 4 Companies are NOT Cutting their Training Budgets Despite the Economic Downturn

Training provider Beyond the Box say recent research carried out shows that for 50% of companies the budget allocated to training is under £500 per employee: for 32% the budget is between £500 and £2000 while 25% of companies plan to spend in excess of £10,000 per employee. Research also shows that for 75% of companies the training budget will remain the same or increase.

It is encouraging to see that training is by and large proving to be recession proof. Companies are recognising the need, in the current climate, to build on their competitive advantage by investing in people as well as keeping motivation and morale high.


Help for Business Pledges Mandelson

Britain's new business secretary Lord Mandleson has promised to help small and medium sized businesses.

He says "We want to help smaller businesses to plan for the difficult times ahead" he told the House of Commons select committee.

Small firms will receive £350m in aid, amid increasing evidence of an economic downturn.


Staff Training

Skills secretary John Denham said "We have got to make sure that small business have cash-flow"

The government has also announced that help for small businesses to retrain their staff during the current economic climate. This announcement follows research that shows that firms how invest in staff training were better equipped to survive a recession.

He went on to say "We want to make sure that small businesses can get short courses for their employees. We think that will help hundreds of thousands of people to get skills which are proved to pay back to the companies that they work for."

Most firms with fewer than 250 employees will benefit from this exciting new package of funding and training.
